“Doing What is Right, Right Now”

K-5 Art Contest

There is no better way to honor Dr. King than to change things that need changing. We invite you to create an original piece of art that illustrates things that are wrong and ways we can make it better. The artwork can be a drawing, painting, print collage or other 2-D medium on 8 1⁄2 x 11 inch paper. No sculptures or other 3-D work will be accepted. On the back of each entry, please include the student’s full name, grade, school, home address and telephone number. Entries must be received by Diane Lauer by 4pm on December 20, 2013. Please send the artwork to her through the mail or interoffice mail. Diane Lauer is located at the Thompson Administration Building – 800 S. Taft Ave. The best art piece will be honored during the Martin Luther King Day Community celebration on Monday, January 20, 2014.

6-8 Essay Contest

There is no better way to honor Dr. King than to change things that need changing. We invite you to write an essay, poem or letter, 300 words or less, discussing things that are wrong and ways we can make it better. Entries must be delivered either electronically to diane.lauer@thompsonschools.org, dropped off to the Thompson Administration Building – 800 S. Taft Ave., or sent through district mail. Diane Lauer must receive your entry by 4 pm on December 20, 2013. On the back of each entry, please include the student’s full name, grade, school, home address and telephone number. The best submissions will be honored during the Martin Luther King Day Community celebration on Monday, January 20, 2014.
